The name Rathmullan derives from the Irish name Ráth Maoláin which means ‘The Ringfort of Maoláin’. It is situated on the western shores of Lough Swilly 11 km from Ramelton and 12 km from Milford and serves as an important historical village as it was the scene of The Flight of the Earls in 1607 – a major turning point in Irish history.

Consistently one of the county`s most popular holiday destinations, Rathmullan’s expansive sandy beach with its long jetty is breathtaking.

Local amenities include 3 shops, a resource centre, the renowned Rathmullan House Hotel with it’s award winning restaurant and The Water’s Edge Restaurant as well as horse riding and the links golf course at Otway. The comprehensive facilities of Letterkenny are about a 25 minute drive.
